A vibrant and inventive father-daughter comedy that follows Georgie, a 12-year-old girl who secretly lives on her own in a working-class suburb of London. She’s happy to be alone, pretending to live with an uncle, stealing to make money and building a strange tower into the sky from her mum’s bedroom.

When her estranged father, Jason, turns up out of blue, she’s forced to confront what’s really going on, as Georgie and Jason find that they both still have a lot of growing up to do.

Winner of a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, “Scrapper” is full of spirit and humor as Dickinson, and remarkable newcomer Campbell, add irresistible charm into a moving and frequently hilarious story of a grieving kid and a father in over his head.

Films in the Winter Monday Cinema Series are:

January 8: Who’s Yer Father – In this laugh-out-loud caper, a small-town private investigator is hired by a wealthy seafood buyer to investigate the sale of black market lobster on Prince Edward Island. After joining forces with a scrappy convenience store owner, he uncovers much more than expected.

January 15: Fallen Leaves (Subtitled) – In modern-day Finland, two lonely souls in search of love meet in a karaoke bar. But their path to happiness is beset by obstacles – from lost numbers to wrong addresses, and a charming, stray dog.

January 22: Dumb Money – In this subversively funny ‘David vs. Goliath’ true story, a regular guy, who sank his life savings into GameStop (the video game store) stock in 2021 and posted about it online, makes his followers rich and Wall Street billionaires angry.

January 29: Anatomy of a Fall (Subtitled) – In a remote town in the French Alps, a man is found dead in the snow and his wife is suspected of her husband’s murder, their blind son the only witness. Part legal thriller and part family drama, the film is a taut, suspenseful, and thrilling story about perception, truth, and ambition wrapped in a heady puzzle.

February 5: Maestro – A love letter to life and art, “Maestro” tells the complex love story of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein over 30 years, led by a pair of powerful performances, “Maestro” serves as a stirring overview of a tremendous talent’s life and legacy.

February 12: The Persian Version (Some subtitles) – In this dramedy, Iranian-American Leila strives to find balance between her opposing cultures. But when her large family gathers in New York a family secret leads the estranged mother and daughter to discover they are more alike than they know.

February 26: Driving Madeleine(Subtitled) – Madeleine, 92, calls a taxi to reach the retirement home where she must live from now on. She asks Charles, a disillusioned driver, to pass by the places in Paris that mattered in her life. As Madeleine’s extraordinary past emerges both lives are changed.

March 4: Scrapper – Georgie is a 12-year-old girl who lives on her own in London. She’s happy about it, in fact she’d rather have it that way. But, when her estranged father turns up out of blue, she’s forced to confront what’s really going on.

March 11: The Teacher’s Lounge (Subtitled) – Carla is an idealistic sports and math teacher at a high school. When a series of thefts occur at the school, she decides to get to the bottom of the matter on her own. But as she tries to do everything right, the pressure threatens to break her.
