Monday Cinema – Café Daughter

December 9 @ 4:00 pm - 5:45 pm

Trail & District Arts Council’s MONDAY CINEMA Café Daughter at The Royal Theatre, 1597 Bay Avenue, Trail on Monday, December 9 at 4 pm.

Based on the Kenneth T. Williams’ play of the same name, and inspired by true events, Café Daughter is a coming-of-age story about a young Chinese-Cree girl, Yvette Wong, in growing up in a small community in 1960s Saskatchewan, who begins to embrace her Cree identity after a family tragedy.

She embraces her Cree identity after she befriends Maggie Wolf, a part Mi’kmaq girl, who encourages her to take pride in who she is and where her family comes from. However, when this is revealed she experiences discrimination against her by her fellow students and teachers. But Yvette chooses to persevere to achieve her dreams of going to medical school.
