A fun, touching and thought-provoking drama about friendship, freedom – and alcohol that follows four high school teachers as they consume alcohol daily to see how it affects their social and professional lives.
Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) has become stuck in a rut, leading to the breakdown of his personal and professional life. He feels old and tired. At a birthday celebration for one of the group of high school teachers, the four decide to test the theory that a little alcohol in the blood opens the mind to the outside world, problems seem smaller, and creativity increases. Martin and his three colleagues throw themselves into the experiment to maintain a constant alcohol level arguing that if Churchill won World War II in a dense fog of spirits, what could it do for them and their students? The result is positive in the beginning. The alcohol makes the four friends loosen up and they are reinvigorated, inspiring their students, and rebooting their personal lives. But the effects don’t last for long and soon they consume more and the cracks in their lives become larger.
“Take one part deftly directed tragicomedy, add a dash of Mads Mikkelsen in vintage form, and you’ve got Another Round — an intoxicating look at midlife crises.” – Rotten Tomatoes. Rated 92% Rotten Tomatoes.
“Another Round has the lurching rhythm of a drinking session. All is great fun, or at least loudly harmless, right up the point when it isn’t.” – Danny Leigh, Financial Times
“A peak-form Mads Mikkelsen stars in this hilarious and heartbreaking spellbinder…” – Peter Travers, ABC News
“Another Round is a truly wonderful movie about trying to come to grips with life, anchored by terrific performances, infectious music, and a real understanding of the humming discontentment that all adults must learn to navigate in their own ways.” – Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
