The Trail & District Arts Council presents Buzz Brass – The Pen of Perilous Pitfalls, a captivating classical music show for kids ages 5-10 and their families to enjoy together. The show is on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 pm in The Bailey Theatre and is part of the TECK Family Series.

Come discover an original musical story, performed live by Buzz Brass’s five talented musicians, that will carry you away to a multitude of literary and cinematographic worlds through 400 years of history.

A dynamic classical and jazz score tells the story of Alexandra, a young teenage girl who doesn’t appear to be of the stuff heroes are made of. Following an unusual start to her day, Alex is handed a magic pen that allows her to visit imaginary worlds. Finding herself moving swiftly from one adventure to another Alex comes across all kinds of characters. Wanting to find answers to her questions Alex will need to decide whom she can truly trust while overcoming an unexpected threat to the balance among the worlds. Will our heroine see her perseverance rewarded and save everyone?

The story is told by music that carries you from Camelot’s Arthurian legends to Sherlock Holmes’ investigations then transports you to a ship out of The Pirates of the Caribbean before you board a spacecraft out of Star Wars. But the fun doesn’t end there as the music takes you to a universe of superheroes and video games before you enter the fantastical worlds of Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and James Bond.

Music includes: La fille aux cheveux de lin by C. Debussy; Super Mario Bros. Theme by K. Kondo; Toccata & Fugue in D minor by J. S. Bach; Sabre Dance by A. Khachaturian; It Don’t Mean A Thing by D. Ellington; Theme from Harry Potter, Theme from Jurassic Park and Star Wars Main Theme all by John Williams; Apprenti sorcier by P. Dukas; The Avengers – Main Theme by A. Silvestri; James Bond Theme by M. Norman; Pirates of the Caribbean by K. Badelt; and Monsters, Inc. by Randy Newman

Suitable for ages 5 to 10 years old. Show length 50 minutes.

Since 2002, the Buzz Brass quintet has been travelling all over the globe with over 1,600 appearances to its credit. The numerous awards and distinctions that Buzz Brass has earned over the years (Opus, ADISQ, and Trille Or) attest to both the quality and the relevance of its musical performances. Thanks to numerous innovative programmes, praiseworthy recordings, a unique repertoire, and a vision of classical concerts that reaches out to a wide audience, the group now features among the most reputable brass quintets in Canada. Its latest productions have had Buzz collaborating with established symphony orchestras such as those of Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Winnipeg and Quebec City as well as with Ottawa’s National Arts Centre Orchestra.

“A first-class brass quintet, with a likeable flair for humour and for pleasing a crowd without uttering a word.” – Three Weeks Edinburgh newspaper
