Just when you thought there was nothing new on the concert scene, along comes PERCUSSIANO 3.

Percussiano 3 is a veritable pageant for the eye and the ear bringing together a panoply of percussion instruments with one piano. The two hands of percussionist Rod Thomas Squance and the four hands of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann join to perform a six-handed musical marvel. With their dazzling array of instruments and brilliant display of virtuosity, Percussiano 3 delivers all of the excitement of a percussion ensemble without losing the classical touch of a traditional concert, presenting great masterpieces and unique transcriptions for percussion and piano. Their repertoire spans across musical styles and periods and includes works by composers like Bach, Schubert, Ravel, Chabrier, Copland, Rachmaninoff, Piazzolla, Brubeck, Saint Saëns as well as their own original compositions.

The Bergmanns have performed in recital and in orchestral concerts, as well in music festivals, internationally for over two decades. The duo’s love for music covers a wide range, including many of their own arrangements and compositions. Recent tours have seen the Bergmanns onstage with two-piano performances on grand piano. The Bergmann Duo have recorded for CBC, the ARD in Germany and for National Public Radio. Their own CDs have been recorded on labels for Koch International Classics, CordAria, Arktos, Naxos, and Brilliant Classics. The duo performed with the International Piano Quartet and recorded Stravinsky’s Les Noces, directed by Robert Craft, at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.

The Bergmanns are joined on tour by percussionist Rod Thomas Squance, who has dazzled audiences across Canada and worldwide. He has received rave reviews for his exciting technique and captivating musicianship. Whether it be in the style of jazz, world music, classical, or contemporary Rod performs internationally as a soloist and as a freelance percussionist in a variety of settings, including chamber and orchestral. Rod Squance has performed with many stellar artists including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project; Paquito de Rivera, clarinetist; Dong-Won Kim, Korean traditional percussionist; Kojiro Umezaki, erhuist Yu Hongmei (shakuhachi players), and Prafulla Athalye, Sandeep Das and Abbas Janmohammed (tabla players). Rod performs for CBC Radio often, on both national radio and television broadcasts, and is as ‘at home’ with jazz (playing a jazz vibraphone) as he is with classical music. Rod holds his doctoral degree from the University of Miami and is a scholar of Balinese gender wayang music, having studied and researched Balinese music (gender wayang) with I Ketut Sukayana in Sukawati village, Bali. Performance of Indian classical music is top-ranked among Squance’s talents – Hindustani raga, using the marimba, with Prafulla Athalye (Mumbai tabla player). Other music styles studied include Afro-Cuban, Chinese and Brazilian music.

Two 45 minutes sets and a 20 minute intermission.
