The Jazz at the Griff series, presented by Trail & District Arts Council, brings you The Nelson Jazz Collective featuring Mike Fahie on Thursday, November 28 at 7:30 pm. Enjoy the jazz club vibe of The Griff as you savour a glass of wine in a setting that is up close and personal with the band.

The idea for The Nelson Jazz Collective grew out of the great fortune of having some of Canada’s best musicians congregated in Nelson. Led by bassist Rob Fahie, it provides an outlet for these musicians to collaborate at a high level on original compositions and arrangements. Rob, along with pianist David Restivo and guitarist Mike Rud, provide a base for guest performers and special projects, with additional musicians and collaborators being added as the music demands.

The Nelson Jazz Collective presents a stellar ensemble with Mike Rud on guitar, David Restivo on piano, Rob Fahie on bass, Joel Fountain on drums, and special guest Mike Fahie on trombone.

New-York-City-based trombonist Mike Fahie returns to the BC interior for a string of shows featuring his original music. Along with releasing three albums under his own name, Mike is the lead trombonist of several jazz ensembles in New York City, including the four-time Grammy-nominated Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, and has many album, Broadway, and movie soundtrack credits to his name. He is also the principal trombonist of the Grammercy Brass Orchestra of New York and has been on the faculty of the United Nations International School for over 20 years. mikefahie.com

Audiences can expect inspired performances on a cross-section of music composed and curated by Mike, informed by his 20-plus-year career as a professional jazz musician in the world’s #1 location for jazz and improvised music. Mike’s recordings as a leader incorporate elements of modern and free jazz, but also include his strong affinity for classical music. The ensemble will endeavour to provide the audience with a true New York City jazz club experience, without having to leave the beautiful BC interior!

Jazz at The Griff audiences are very familiar with the rest of the band.
