Trail Maple Leaf Band, Trail Pipe Band and Scotties School of Dance – Music in the Park

June 22, 2023 @ 6:15 pm - 8:00 pm

Trail and District Arts Council presents Kootenay Savings Music in the Park Trail Pipe Band with opening act Trail Maple Leaf Band on Thursday June 22nd at 6:15 pm at Gyro Park, Trail.

The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community back together this Summer at Gyro Park for Kootenay Savings Music in The Park. With eleven shows and two acts per night, from June 22 to August 31, it’s the perfect opportunity for all the family to get together outside and listen to great live music.

This season we have a great mix of music from local favourites to touring talent!

On June 22 we kick off the season with the Trail Maple Leaf Band playing concert band pieces, show tune medleys and marches, followed by Trail Pipe Band with guests Scotties School of Dance for an evening of Scottish piping and dancing.

Under the direction of Joseph S. Fuoco, the Trail Pipe Band has been delighting local audiences for over 100 years performing at indoor and outdoor concerts, civic parades, and special functions. The 30 to 40 band members play concert band pieces, show tune medleys and marches.

Joining them this year will be the Trail Pipe Band, who will be playing pipe band favourites from their huge repertoire. Trail Pipe Band was 95 years old in 2019 and today the band has an active roster of 10 pipers and 7 drummers in performance led by Bill Bain, a veteran of the band. The tartan kilts they wear today are modeled after the uniform of the Scots Guards: Royal Stuart tartan kilts and plaids; with green tunics for the pipers and red tunics for the drummers. Their goal is to promote the Scottish tradition by teaching the arts of piping and drumming.

Joining them for a few tunes is The Scooties School of Highland dance, which has been running in Castlegar since 1994 under teacher Jaydeen Ashton. The dancers participate in community events, festivals and celebrations, along with competing in dance competitions and dance exams throughout the year. Dancers range in age from 3 to adult……. remember, you are never too old to learn to dance!

Bring a lawn chair. Admission is by donation – $3 minimum suggested. Or support the Trail Arts Council’s programming by buying a Season Pass for the whole summer for $50! Passes will be available soon.

As part of Music in the Park 2023 we will once again be collaborating with Trail’s Incredible Farmers Market. Our two Night Markets on July 20 and August 17 are awesome events that bring the community together with Music, Food, Beer Garden and Farmers Market. So much fun in Gyro Park.

This show is made possible thanks to support from Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Teck Trail Operations, Columbia Basin Trust, BC Arts Council, BC Touring Council, the Government of Canada, Tourism South Kootenay, Pharmasave Trail and our media partner Bounce Radio. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
