Trail & District Arts Council & Kootenay Concert Connection present The Barra MacNeils this Tues., Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm. A highly entertaining musical potpourri for the holidays, blending traditional MacNeil family favourites, from Christmas ceilidhs to midnight masses, with the general festive frolic that accompanies each holiday season.

The Barra MacNeils live concert experience brings so much more to the stage than most live acts ever can. Multiple lead vocalists, beautiful sibling harmonies, top drawer instrumental prowess on a wide variety of acoustic, stringed, percussion and wind instruments blended with dancing, storytelling, Gaelic songs and a journey through an ancient culture - family entertainment at its highest level.

The bittersweet true story, "The Great Escaper", i

The bittersweet true story, "The Great Escaper", is on for one screening only at 4 pm on Monday November 18 at 4 pm at the Royal Theatre in Trail.

The Great Escaper is an unflinching and heartbreakingly quiet portrayal of Bernard and Irene Jordan, an octogenarian couple caught up in a media frenzy when he makes his own way to France for the D-Day 70th anniversary commemorations.

Caine is the determined but slightly intimidated Bernie, with a fierce and whip-smart wife, Rene (Glenda Jackson), who might be failing in body but will absolutely make up for it in spirit.

When Bernie’s misses out on an organized trip to the commemorations he "breaks out" of his nursing home with the help of his wide and other veterans he meets along the way.
The film deals with the complicated emotional fallout from war, but its heart is provided by the relationship between Bernie and Rene, who have been joined at the hip for 70 years.

The Barra MacNeils are coming to The Bailey Theatre for one show only this coming Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 pm.

The Barra MacNeils, Canada’s first family of Celtic music, is a diversely talented group of four brothers and a sister from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Steeped in Atlantic tradition with strong Celtic roots and musical artistry, they are regarded as one of the greatest live acts in the Celtic world.

A universal favourite, Barra MacNeils’ East Coast Christmas is a treat for all ages and walks of life. A unique seasonal show with a special Celtic spin on traditional favourites and original East Coast treasures through songs, stories and dance. Their stunning rendition of “O Holy Night” is just one of the many highlights that brings audiences to their feet. Fans look forward to musical gems like “Ave Maria”, “Christmas in Killarney”, and “Auld Lang Syne” among an array of seasonal delights and originals.

"The Great Escaper", on this Monday, November 18 at 4 pm at the Royal Theatre, follows the true story of Bernie Jordan (Michael Caine), a veteran who served in the Second World War, who hopes to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

However, when Bernie checks with his nursing home he finds he’s already too late and all the tours are booked!

Encouraged by his wife Rene (Glenda Jackson), he decides to make his own way from England to France. Evading the nursing home with the help of Rene, he makes his escape.

On the way Bernie meets veterans of all kinds and explores the costs of war and what it means to have served.

A crowd-pleasing and uplifting movie full of humour and heart.
