One screening only at the @royaltheatretrail tonig One screening only at the @royaltheatretrail tonight Monday, November 27 at 4pm of "Blue Jean", the film RogerEbert.com calls “...one of this year’s most impressive movies.”

In 1988, Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government is about to pass a law stigmatizing gays and lesbians, forcing Jean, a closeted gym teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, a new girl at school threatens to expose Jean's sexuality, challenging Jean to her core.

Bridging times past with issues that are still current, "Blue Jean" resonates intellectually and emotionally thanks to thoughtful direction and authentic performances.

95% on Rotten Tomatoes

Tickets $12 at trail-arts.com or cash at the door if available.
One screening only at the Royal Theatre Trail this One screening only at the Royal Theatre Trail this Monday, November 27 at 4pm of "Blue Jean".

Jean is a woman caught in an uncomfortable limbo between two worlds. She’s a lesbian, on the fringes who is also a PE teacher in a Newcastle secondary school in the late 1980s; exactly the kind of person who the Thatcher regime’s recently enacted section 28 law – forbidding the “promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities – has in its crosshairs. For Jean the separation of work and life is essential, but is upended when one of her female students encroaches on Jean’s closely guarded world.

"Blue Jean" is an exceptional work that shows that history consistently repeats.

“Fit to stand alongside My Beautiful Laundrette and Pride, Oakley’s brilliant film offers hope to anyone who doesn’t feel they fit in and are trapped in a hostile environment.” - London Evening Standard

“Featuring a stirring breakout performance from the luminous Rosy McEwan, “Blue Jean” grounds the political with the personal — without losing sight of queer joy.” indieWire

A “… poignant personal-political drama, which also happens to have a cracking retro soundtrack.” - Deadline Hollywood Daily

Tickets $12 at trail-arts.com or cash at the door if available.
