For the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

For the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation next Monday, September 30 we will be playing a series of films in partnership with VISAC Art Gallery at the Royal Theatre Trail from 11 am to 1 pm.

Films include "What is Reconciliation", "The Amendment", "Holy Angels", "Story About Orange Shirt Day", "United by Water", "Etlinisigu'niet (Bleed Down)", How to Steal a Canoe", "As I Am" and "Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair."

The films cover topics including: the ongoing impacts of residential schools; new ways to keep Indigenous languages alive; tainted water and land; challenging stereotypes of Indigenous people in the workplace; a music video about a couple returning a stolen canoe to the water; and the 5 tribes of the Upper Columbia River uniting in traditional canoes for the first time since the Grand Coulee Dam flooded their traditional waterways.

The Social Tango Experience is a beautiful immersive evening of dance, music, and film all the way from Argentina, on The Bailey Theatre on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 pm.

Come experience an authentic, Argentinian immersive experience, as you discover the history of tango through dance and original music all to a backdrop of photographs and film. An evening in the heart of Buenos Aires... in Trail!

This spectacular one-of-a-kind experience celebrates the art of tango with ten exceptional dancers bringing a love story to life with the rhythm of their steps. All accompanied by four musicians and two singers, who reproduce the traditional melodies of the milonga.

The hilarious "Hot Flash Comedy Tour" (19+ event), featuring Syd Bosel and Helen Schneiderman, comes to The Bailey Theatre for International Women's Day weekend on Friday, March 7 at 7:30 pm.

Syd Bosel is a stand-up comedian who spins hilarious and relatable tales of “adult” children, being married for 1,000 years, surviving breast cancer, and other glories of nature. With loads of accolades Syd was voted “Best of the Fest” at the Nanaimo Fringe Festival in 2023 and got “four yesses” in CTV’s Canada’s Got Talent and you’ve probably heard her on CBC’s “Just for Laughs” and “Laugh Out Loud.”

Helen Schneiderman opens for Syd sharing the good, the bad and the ugly to get you laughing. Helen’s comedy draws from her varied life experiences and trips around the globe. She was runner-up in the 2019 BC Funniest New Female Comic contest and was the opening comic for the 2020 “I Am Woman Hear Me Laff” tour and 2022 Chutzpah Festival.

Opening the night is Michelle Hart, a two-time recipient of the Pat & Tony Freedom Fund, Outstanding Sketch/Improv Productions from My Entertainment Weekly, and was featured on JFL42 Sirius FX Just For Laughs Festival. She has worked as a cast member for MSC Seaside, The Second City, and Bad Dog Theatre Feature Players.

Trail & District Arts Council & Kootenay Concert Connection present a highly entertaining musical potpourri for the holidays, blending traditional MacNeil family favourites, from Christmas ceilidhs to midnight masses, with the general festive frolic that accompanies each holiday season.

With their captivating vocals, distinctive harmonies and extraordinary musicianship, The Barra MacNeils inject new life and energy into the sights and sounds of Christmas. Fans can look forward to classic favourites including “O Holy Night”, “Ave Maria”, “Christmas in Killarney” and “Auld Lang Syne”, where a rousing chorus may be followed by a hauntingly beautiful Gaelic ballad, then a flurry of foot-stomping instrumentals accompanied by step-dancing revelry.

Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm, The Myrtle Sisters - Same Same Different. The Myrtle Sisters were so alike that they could hardly tell themselves apart. Until one day, through an unexpected series of calamities, each sister’s secret uniqueness was revealed! Will they still belong if their differences are discovered? A live music and dance spectacle about self-expression and celebrating differences with charm, shenanigans, surprises and mishaps in an outrageously fun experience.

Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 pm, Will and Seeka - Friends with Everyone. An engaging and educational musical show using sing-along choruses in English and French, and actions and movement, in songs about colours, days of the week, weather, food, animals, family and friends, the alphabet and more. Brought to you by nationally recognised children’s educators Will Stroet of Will’s Jams and Seeka of Seeka Sings. Kids will leave the show with these joyous songs in their hearts and a skip in their step.
