Blizzard Music Festival and Trail & District Arts Council present country and alt-folk singer-songwriter Mariel Buckley in her duo on Thursday, January 25 at 7:45 pm at the Rossland Miners Hall.
Single tickets are $35 plus tax and fees. Get tickets here.
Kicking off Blizzard Fest, the Mariel Buckley Duo will play an intimate concert to warm-up the Winter Carnival crowd – the calm before the blizzard!
Unapologetically genuine, wry, and soft-hearted, Mariel Buckley sings and writes songs for and about the underdog.
Her candor and magnetic live show has charmed listeners across North America since her 2018 debut LP, “Driving In The Dark”. She has some impressive accolades, including Roots Artist of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards, 2019), and the grand prize of $100,000 from the year long Project Wild commercial radio artist contest in 2019.
Now, with her follow-up album “Everywhere I Used To Be” [2022], Buckley looks to turn
country/folk music on its head. Delivered with Buckley’s signature crooning brand of angst-ridden alt-folk, anchored by the haunting whine of the pedal steel, and rounded out by heavy synth pads, the resulting collection is a driving, swooning, toe-tapping catharsis.
Working with producer Marcus Paquin (The Weather Station, The Barr Brothers, Arcade Fire, The
National), Buckley moved towards decidedly pop/contemporary production mixing genre, traditional storytelling, and identity is what gives these new songs such an honest shine. Buckley continues to be a trailblazer, with a firm grip on the steering wheel and a destination in mind – we’re just happy to be
along for the ride.
“Buckley offers touchstones to anyone who has felt the same frustrations and feelings of being a misfit, letting them know they’re not alone and that they too can find themselves.” – Fatea Records
“Buckley’s been fine tuning her vision for years now, and she deserves to be talked about in the same breath as the artists who inspire her.” – Exclaim! Magazine
Opening for Mariel Buckley is Liz Arnason. Liz Arnason is a self-confessed working-class Patsy Cline, but a bit more ethereal. By day, Arnason works in remote bush camps, and this nomadic existence and submergence into nature, inspire her music. Songs about being tired from work, the relentless passing of time, memories, and unconventional ways of living.
Mariel Buckley Duo will perform a 60-minute set at 8:45 pm. Liz Arnason will open at 7:45 pm.
This is a seated, general admission event with bar. Doors will open at 7 pm and drinks will be sold before the show and during intermission.
Single tickets are $35 plus tax and fees. Get tickets here.
Mariel Buckley’s show is part of the Blizzard Music Festival. Tickets to this show will be included in the The Blizzard Music Festival pass and tickets for that event will go on sale in November. Blizzard Music Festival runs annually in the last weekend of January in Rossland BC.
