Trail & District Arts Council and The Royal Theatre present Matthias et Maxime at the Silver Screen Drive-In.
Don’t miss “Matthias et Maxime” the latest from celebrated Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan at the Silver Screen Drive-in on Thursday, September 23 at 8:00 pm!
When a group of friends in their late 20s get together, two of them share a playful kiss for a movie, which rekindles suppressed feelings.
In a film swept along by rattling dialogue and simmering tensions it’s all about character. Maxime is a young guy with a skin-pigmentation disorder whose career prospects have been hindered by looking after his troubled mother but leaving her care to his aunt Max has decided to go travelling in Australia. Matthias on the other hand is a handsome and clean-cut lawyer in a straight.
Things change when Erika, Matthias’ annoying sister, persuades them both to be in her short film where they have to kiss. The experience, expected to be laughed off, affects both men deeply, reviving long-dormant feelings and threatening the dynamics of their social circle.
“Xavier Dolan shows a new restraint and romantic tenderness… He breathes fragrant life into a familiar story of unspoken longing.” – Stephanie Bunbury, The Age (Australia)
“Reflects the agony and the ecstasy of being young and reckless with such eloquence, and reminds us that Dolan at his best is a sublimely talented artist.” – Hannah Strong, Little White Lies
“Accessible, heartfelt and full of perfect attention to detail, it is one of Dolan’s best films yet.” – Linda Marric, Daily Mirror (UK)
